Sobriety Checkpoint on the Horizon: What Gamers Need to Know

Hey, gamers! If you’re planning to hit the virtual arenas this Friday evening, keep an eye out for the real-world DWI sobriety checkpoint set up by the Guam Police Department’s Highway Patrol. It kicks off at 6 PM, and the cops are set to cover major routes like Marine Corps Drive, which stretches through Yigo, Dededo, Tamuning, Asan, Piti, and Hagåtña.

No worries if you’re cruising through other parts—you’ve got options. There are alternate locations where officers will be stationed, stretching along Route 14 in Tamuning and Tumon, Route 4 from Hagåtña to Chalan Pago, Route 8 (aka the Purple Heart Highway), Route 10 (Veteran’s Highway in Barrigada and Mangilao), and Route 16 on Army Drive. So, be smart and plan your routes accordingly.

As you gear up for a night of gaming, remember that the cops are serious about keeping our roads safe. They’re reminding everyone to buckle up, stay sharp behind the wheel, keep tabs on your speed, and the golden rule: don’t drink and drive. Just like in gaming, a few missteps can take you out of the game early.

And hey, as members of the tech and gaming community, it’s our responsibility to lead by example. Pitching in for safer streets matters. Your epic gaming sessions can wait a few hours if that means keeping everyone safe.

So, whether you’re heading to a friend’s house for a LAN party or just going out for a quick snack before settling in for the night, keep this sobriety checkpoint in mind. Let’s keep our community both lively and safe, and remember: the only kind of checkpoints we want to hit are in our favorite games. Stay sharp, folks!
