Guam’s future isn’t just about gaming; it’s about leveling up the entire workforce. Recently, a wave of fresh talent emerged from the GCA Trades Academy, where apprentices have been stacking their credentials and gearing up for careers in fields like construction and telecommunications. With programs built in partnership with the Guam Department of Labor, these students are not just getting certificates—they’re gaining skills that could unlock stable, high-demand job opportunities right here on the island.

Among the 33 new graduates, you might find some familiar faces—like four individuals who tackled the Registered Apprenticeship Program focusing on electrical systems in telecommunications. It’s a field ripe for growth, and they’ve just scored major points toward building their careers. And that’s not all; the crew also spotted three high school students who completed courses in construction and safety, proving that the future is indeed bright for the local youth.

What’s exciting is that this isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation. The diversity in the programs means participants are earning certifications in various skills. We’re talking HVAC, heavy equipment operation, and even offload dump truck driving. These are essential skills that weave into Guam’s economic tapestry, and they’re giving graduates a leg up in securing jobs that pay well.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero praised the commitment to expanding these apprenticeship programs, emphasizing that they offer real-world experience and official credentials. It’s clear that Guam is stepping up its game by investing in its people. Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio echoed this sentiment, highlighting the dedication these graduates showed in chasing meaningful careers. It’s more than just classes; it’s about paving the way for a workforce that can adapt and excel in the rapidly changing job landscape.

Director David Dell’Isola of GDOL underscored the core focus: skills that meet actual workforce demands. Each participant has aligned their interests with jobs waiting in the local industries, making this more than an educational endeavor—it’s a clear path to employment. These apprenticeship programs are vital, connecting local businesses with homegrown talent eager to fill essential roles. In a nutshell, this is exactly what Guam needs as it climbs toward a more robust future and engages those looking for opportunities in both gaming and the tech world.
