Off-Duty DOC Officer Arrested: Aggravated Assault Charges
A heated night out turned serious for a local corrections officer, Felix Malcom Quinata Sanchez, who now faces criminal charges for allegedly assaulting an off-duty police officer outside a nightclub in Tamuning. The incident, which took place in the early hours of August 3, has left many in the Guam community questioning the conduct of those in uniform.
Witnesses reported that the off-duty officer was struck in the face and knocked unconscious as he exited the club. Emergency services responded to calls about an unconscious man bleeding from the head, leading to the arrival of police on the scene. It didn’t take long for them to learn that the injured officer had been assaulted by Sanchez, who was seen sporting his “corrections” shirt that night.
After the incident, the victim declined medical treatment but later reached out to authorities, stating that Sanchez had called him after the attack. According to police reports, Sanchez initially denied participation before admitting to the assault, claiming he was merely trying to “subdue” the officer. His reasoning? “You can’t let big guys get the first punch on you.”
Complicating matters, Sanchez allegedly deleted his call logs and text messages before speaking to the police, asserting this had nothing to do with the incident. Regardless of that claim, authorities didn’t take lightly to the act. As a result, he was charged with aggravated assault—a third-degree felony—and destruction of evidence, which is a misdemeanor.
The Guam Department of Corrections has since placed Sanchez on administrative leave while investigations unfold, both criminally and internally. This incident not only raises eyebrows but also serves as a reminder that we, as a community, must hold our public servants accountable. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a fervent tech enthusiast, it’s important to stay informed about local happenings that shape our world here in Guam.
