Progress on Temporary Campus for Simon Sanchez High School

Discussions around the temporary campus for the Simon Sanchez High Sharks are heating up, and if you’re in the Guam gaming scene, you’ll want to tune in. This isn’t just about classrooms; it’s about creating a vibrant space that could influence our next generation of gamers, tech enthusiasts, and innovators. A recent Guam Housing Corporation (GHC) meeting revealed that progress is well underway, thanks to a completed memorandum of agreement. Basically, everything is coming together, with both GHC and the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) collaborating closely.

The campus will sit on a ten-acre stretch of already developed land at Guma As Atdas—think two apartment buildings ripe for refurbishing, a parking lot, and some prime real estate right next to FB Leon Guerrero Middle School. You can almost see it: classrooms modified from those buildings, complete with space for administrative offices, counseling, and even nursing. Plus, they’re planning to add 20 new classrooms. Now that’s a solid setup for the Sharks, giving them a place to thrive and learn.

GHC has taken the next steps by requesting a retracement survey to clearly mark the designated area, with the Department of Land Management giving it a thumbs up. It’s like setting up boundaries in your favorite game to ensure everyone knows where the action is happening. After this, an estimate of the total costs will be coming into play.

In a cool twist, Edith Pangelinan from GHC mentioned that GDOE is working on an amendment to the memorandum. This will confirm that the retracement survey won’t cost GHC a dime, meaning GDOE will cover the associated expenses. Not a bad deal at all—it’s all about teamwork, after all.

This temporary campus isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about creating a nurturing environment for the minds who’ll shape the future of gaming and tech in Guam. So, while we keep an eye on the progress, let’s champion the Sharks and all they’ll bring to the community in the coming years. The buzz is real, and so is the excitement for the ongoing developments—stay tuned!
